Case Study: CRI a protective coverage to a disabled family

Rekha Ben, a hospital cleaner, and her husband, a driver, face challenges due to extreme weather, especially for their disabled daughter who suffers from heat-related health issues. In 2024, Rekha enrolled in the Climate Risk Insurance (CRI) scheme to help with medical expenses when her daughter experienced a heat stroke. After learning about the scheme through workshops, Rekha applied for the insurance and received INR 750 as a claim after temperatures exceeded 43.7°C. She advocates for a more flexible scheme, including coverage for additional climate risks and higher premiums for greater claims. Rekha plans to continue using the scheme to mitigate future climate-related health risks.
