Case Study: CRI mitigates urban poor’s vulnerability through climate risk transfer
Hasumati Kailesh Parmar, a 50-year-old support staff member, uses the Climate Risk Insurance (CRI) scheme to manage the health and financial risks her family faces from extreme weather. In 2024, after learning about CRI through a workshop, she enrolled in the scheme to address her family’s health challenges, particularly her bedridden father-in-law and the skin burns she suffered due to heat waves. When temperatures exceeded 43.7°C in June, she received a claim of INR 750. Hasumati plans to continue with the scheme and suggests improvements, such as flexible premiums and considering additional climate factors like heavy rains and extreme winters.
