Mahila Housing Trust showcasing the Cooperation with the InsuResilience Centre of Excellence on Gender-smart Solutions at COP26, High-level UK Presidency Event

At the high-level UK Presidency headline event on Gender Day, ‘Advancing Gender Equality in Climate Action’ at COP26 in Glasgow, our InsuResilience Global Partnership and Gender Working Group member – Mahila Housing SEWA Trust (MHT) – represented the InsuResilience Centre of Excellence on Gender-smart Solutions (CoE) by highlighting collaboration efforts and successes in implementing gender-related activities in India. Amidst a distinguished speakers’ list and panel discussion on Advancing Gender Equality in Climate Action, Bijal Brahmbhatt, MHT’s Executive Director, spoke on gender-discriminatory root causes of higher climate risk for many women, and how Mahila Housing Trust established approaches to include women in decision-making processes and remove barriers to access financial instruments in order to strengthen women’s agency as climate and disaster risk management strategists.

We are particularly looking forward to publishing a new study in 2022 together with MHT to better understand poverty related barriers to access Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance solutions.
