We promote the integration of gender considerations within the activities of the InsuResilience Global Partnership and its members

About the focus topic gender

The gender group promotes the integration of gender considerations within the activities of the InsuResilience Global Partnership and its members, as reflected in the Vision 2025. As of 2022, the community consists of 50 members and is co-chaired by Global Affairs Canada and CARE International.

In 2018, the InsuResilience High-Level Consultative Group recognised the importance of including gender-responsive strategies in Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI) solutions and mandated the members of the InsuResilience Global Partnership to promote the implementation of gender considerations in CDRFI programming. As part of their mandate, the InsuResilience gender group meets approximately twice a year to exchange knowledge, share activities and scope the potential for collaboration on specific topics. With their diverse insights and expertise, members of the gender group co-create studies and guidance notes commissioned by the InsuResilience Secretariat and lay the conceptual groundwork for gender-responsive CDRFI.

On a political level, the group co-shaped the InsuResilience Declaration on Gender adopted in 2020. The declaration lays out key principles for gender-equitable CDRFI solutions and provides a broad action plan to address the gender-specific and intersectional needs of poor and vulnerable women, men and children. This includes understanding and addressing women’s additional barriers to their full, meaningful, and equal economic participation.

To support these ambitions, the InsuResilience Centre of Excellence on Gender-smart Solutions (CoE) was launched in November 2021 at COP27. The CoE is the first platform to provide a global community of policymakers and practitioners with guidance, opportunities, knowledge, and evidence for the integration of gender into Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI). Driven by a vivid community, the Centre of Excellence explores how to drive gender-transformative action on a local level, provides key resources and offers a global point of contact for advisory on designing and implementing effective CDRFI solutions.

Priority work areas

Providing key resources on knowledge and evidence for gender-responsive CDRFI and fostering knowledge and information exchange on Gender and CDRFI

Providing guidance and toolkits to support policymakers and practitioners implementing gender-smart solutions across their work

Offering opportunities for learning, leadership training, and technical advisory to support implementation

Uniting a global community of gender champions to promote the integration of gender considerations across the partnership, programmes, and global policy arena

How we work

The InsuResilience gender group meets approximately twice a year virtually. Members share their expertise, present their activities and milestones on gender and CDRFI, and co-create knowledge and guidance products.
